THERE IS SOMETHING BETWEEN DENIM WEIGHT AND BREAKING IN
There were times we came up with questions about how denim weight has anything to do with breaking in or what is regarded lightweight or how it wears in compared to heavier denims. We thought our readers might find it interesting so we figured we’d talk about it today.
Well, let’s divide the denim weight into four categories; lightweight for 9-10 oz., midweight for 12-15 oz., heavyweight for 16-18 oz. and the uncommon extra heavyweight for anything around 20 oz. and more.
When it comes to how lightweight denim wears in compared to heavier denims, let’s put it this way.
Think about if you fold a piece of light fabric you will make a light crease because it is so soft. If you fold a piece of cardboard you will make a thick, defined crease. Denim weights work in the same way. It’s easier to break in heavier denims because creases form easily on them. Lightweight fabrics are so thin that a break in is not really required at all.
So have your choice whether you want to have refined deep creases or a little bit crumpled look for your day. Pick the right weight of denim you want and enjoy…
