Tucked off Tokyo’s Setagaya, a newly fashionable district with narrow streets and good shopping, this hippie-hearted guy, Katsuyuki Tanaka turned an old candy shop into a hip original coffee shop called Bear Pond Espresso. He’s also a barista himself.
Having spent his time for more than 20 years living in the U.S. of A. as an advertising executive, he’s sure to be the one caught doing something creatively unigue. While everyone else is busy following trends, Tanaka says
“…I’ve never competed with people, I compete with myself. I try who I am, what my passion is. It’s ah..my classic. It’s a DNA...”
The drink to order at Bear Pond Espresso is espresso. It isn’t anything like the espresso you know. It’s as rich and syrupy as caramel, and so naturally sweet it tastes strikingly like melted chocolate. So make sure to drop by and have a taste of all the espresso, his style and stories you will never find somewhere else.
